Our Beliefs

What we believe shapes who we are becoming.
We look to these fundamental beliefs as the foundation of our faith and the lens through which we approach the world around us.

There will always be peripheral doctrines upon which Biblically rooted and committed Christ followers disagree, and we welcome dialogue on many issues related to Christian doctrine. However, we recognize the importance of having a framework around which we grow in maturity and relate to one another as a community of believers, and we hold the following essentials to be at the core of who we are and what we believe:

God

God's Gospel originates in, and expresses, the wondrous perfections of the eternal, triune God.

We believe in one God. We believe in God who is eternally existent in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit – each of whom possess equally all the attributes of deity.

Isaiah 48:16; Matthew 3:16-17; Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Hebrews 1:5-8; Matthew 1:23; 1 John 5:20; Acts 5:3-4; Psalm 24:1; 1 Thessalonians 1:9: John 4:24; Matthew 5:48; Leviticus 19:2; John 5:26; 1 John 3:20; Psalm 139:7-10; Jeremiah 32:17; Matthew 19:26)

The Holy Spirit

The Gospel is applied by the power of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the eternal third person of the trinity, who permanently indwells every believer upon his or her faith in Jesus Christ.

John 3:3-5, 14:16-17, 16:8, 13; Acts 1:8, 5:3-4; Romans 8:9, 14; 1 Corinthians 12:11-13; Titus 3:5-6; Ephesians 1:13-14, 5:1-8; 1 Peter 1:2

Jesus

God's Gospel is made known supremely in the Person of Jesus Christ.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal second person of the trinity, who was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and is fully God, but became fully man to save a lost world. We believe that he lived a perfect life, was crucified, and three days later rose from the grave. He ascended into heaven, and will one day return again.

Matthew 1:8, 23; Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 1:17; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17; Hebrews 2:17-18, 4:14-15, 7:25; 1 John 2:2, 4:9; Revelation 1:7; 19:11-20-15

The Bible

God's Gospel is authoritatively revealed in the Scriptures.

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error, and is the final authority of faith and practice. We believe the Bible is the true story of the whole world, all 66 books of the Old and New Testaments.

2 Timothy 3:15-17; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35; John 14:23-24, 17:17; 1 John 2:4-5; 1 Peter 1:24-25

Humanity

God's Gospel alone addresses our deepest need.

We believe that mankind was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, mankind is incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through his or her own efforts.

Genesis 3; Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:23, 5:10-19, 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-10; Matthew 25:46; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Titus 3:5-7

Salvation

Faith in the death and resurrection

We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for their sin.

John 1:12-13; Romans 2:5-6, 5:8, 10:9-13; Acts 16:30-33; Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 Peter 1:18-19

Prayer

Prayer changes everything.

We believe in the power of prayer, trusting God to provide according to His will. Consistent communication and connection with God through intentional time talking and listening is essential to a healthy growing relationship with Jesus. Through continual adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication, we are building a lifestyle centered around God.

Philippians 4:6-7; Romans 8:26; Jeremiah 33:3; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Timothy 2:1-4; Matthew 6:9-13; Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; 1 John 5:14

How to Live

God's Gospel compels us to Christ-like living and mission to the world.

We believe that every follower of Jesus should live for Christ and not for himself or herself. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Holy Spirit, every believer should mature and pursue spiritual transformation to the image of Christ.

Philippians 2:5-8; Mark 9:43-44; Ephesians 4:1-16; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 6:4; John 15:8; Colossians 1:10; John 6:37-40, 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 8:38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:4-5; Titus 2:11-15; John 20:31; 2 Peter 1:3-11

Eternity

God's Gospel requires a response that has eternal consequences.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of all mankind, to the eternal communion with God for the believer, and the eternal separation from God for the unbeliever.

Matthew 25:31-46, Romans 2:5-11; 1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 50-54; Daniel 12:2, John 5:28-29, 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Peter 3:7-12; Revelation 20:5-6, 13-15

The Church

God's Gospel is now embodied in the new community called the Church.

We believe the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God and make Him known.

Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 12:12-28; Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:23-33; Revelation 19:11-16; Matthew 18:15-17; 1 Corinthians 1:2, 7:17; 1 Timothy 3:1-15; Acts 2:41-47, 14:23; Ephesians 5:27
